It is confirmed by Samsung that a new voice assistant from Samsung will be added on the coming Galaxy S8 (Plus) smartphone, as a rival to Appleā€™s Siri, in the release of the smartphone on March 29, 2017.

Shenzhen, Guangdong -- (ReleaseWire) -- 03/22/2017 -- Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone has been a hot topic quite recently. It is officially announced that Galaxy S8 duo (S8 and S8 Plus smartphone) will be unveiled at a dedicated launch event in New York on March 29, 2017. The South Korean electronics giant has also confirmed that its own voice assistant Bixby, rival to Apple's Siri, will be featured on the upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone.

As Samsung's flagship smartphone in 2017, Samsung Galaxy S8 will feature a 5.8-inch screen, and S8 Plus will be designed with a 6.2-inch display, larger than 5.1-inch and 5.7-inch displays on the old phones. In previous years, Samsung introduced Galaxy S series alongside an "Edge" variant with a curved edge-to-edge display. However in 2017, it seems that both Galaxy S8 and S8+ will feature the "Edge" display with S8 Plus having a larger display, similar to display size improvement from iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

According to Samsung's head of research and development for Software and Services Injong Rhee, Bixby will be launched with "a subset of pre-installed applications" of on the S8 which will "continue to expand over time". Samsung has not had its own voice assistant until now although voice assistants have been in fashion among major technology companies including Amazon, Apple and Microsoft. Besides, Samsung electronics also intended to release tools for allowing third-party developers to make Bixby-enabled apps.

People will be able to access Bixby by a side button on the smartphone. Samsung is also planning to apply its own voice assistant Bixby to many devices, not limited to its smartphones. "Starting with our smartphones, Bixby will be gradually applied to all our appliances. In the future you would be able to control your air conditioner or TV through Bixby. Since Bixby will be implemented in the cloud, as long as a device has an internet connection and simple circuitry to receive voice inputs, it will be able to connect with Bixby," Rhee said in a blog post.

Samsung Galaxy S8 duo will be unveiled next week, and it is estimated that people can pre-order Galaxy S8 in the early April. Some iPhone users might consider a switch from iPhone gadget to Galaxy S8 (Plus) in order to have a taste of Bixby. For those people, they need to make use an iPhone data backup program such as Leawo iTransfer to backup iPhone data before switching to Galaxy S8 smartphone.
